We are in an alliance with the US and make commitments to protect each other in times of trouble. When you a strong, or have strength behind you, you have respect. A weak party has no respect and is subject to the whim of the superior party strength-wise. That we should be weak in order to avoid offending China is the most craven of toadying.
Bob Brown is either horribly naive, or a craven apologist for China. The extreme left in politics is usually naive, the extreme right is usually paranoid. In matters of defence, I would rather stand with the nut jobs on the right than the nut jobs on the left.
Bob Brown is like Neville Chamberlain; he would sell our freedom, or the freedom of others, for fear of a strong potential enemy. The reason China has no allies other than the DPRK is because of how it has treated its allies in the past. Is that where Bob Brown wants us to be? Until this week, I disagreed with Brown but respected him. Now he has shown himself to be a melon:- green on the outside, cowardly red on the inside.
